Two New White Papers Help Address Technology and Security Issues
In order to help corporations understand and overcome some of the key issues faced in meeting the compliance requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and/or the Sarbanes-Oxley Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act (SOX), silex technology america, Inc. today released two free white papers designed to show healthcare and public companies how they can quickly comply within their current technology infrastructures utilizing new biometrics technology.
HIPAA and SOX, two acronyms representing sweeping congressional legislation, are forcing corporations across the U.S. to devote major resources to put into place processes, technology, and manpower needed to become compliant.

"Most companies that need to meet HIPAA or SOX requirements already understand they need to look at their technology processes and security," said David Smith, silex technology america president. "What they don't always understand, and what these white papers discuss, is how a few simple, yet, efficient biometric security implementations within their current infrastructures can provide security and privacy quickly to help meet compliancy requirements now."

The two white papers, Providing Security and Privacy Within Healthcare Facilities, a white paper discussing the compliant issues that can be overcome by implementing fingerprint authentication systems, and Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance: Security at the Heart of Internal Controls, a white paper that looks at how biometrics technology facilitate internal controls necessary to comply with SOX, both discuss biometric implementations companies can conduct now to meet requirements and are available directly from silex.

Excerpt from Sarbenes-Oxley Compliance: Security at the Heart of Internal Controls, "As it relates to technology ... [SOX] vaguely addresses IT with statements related to 'internal control,' but makes no reference to how they should change technology infrastructures currently in place ...

"[In order to meet the requirements of internal control] SOX requires an enterprise wide security system."

Excerpt from Providing Security and Privacy Within Healthcare Facilities, "With the HIPAA objectives, one of the main issues is guaranteeing security and privacy of health information. Fingerprint authentication systems (FAS) play perfectly into this scenario. HIPAA states, 'The requirement for a healthcare information system is whether medical record privacy is adequately protected.' FAS enables a situation where only an authorized person can access, view, and use medical records and information within a centrally controlled secure and private environment."

"We want executives to understand that in addition to everything they are already doing, there are biometric fingerprint products that meet U.S. government standards that can be implemented today creating a level of security and privacy to meet legislative requirements," said Smith.

silex technology america is a manufacturer of networking and biometrics products. Its line of fingerprint readers provide security, authentication, and access control for a variety of corporate settings. silex fingerprint readers and software can be viewed at http://www.silexamerica.com/us/products/security/products/index.html

Both white papers are free and are available immediately by contacting silex at (801) 748-1199, or directly from silex's website at http://www.silexamerica.com/.
