Axis partners with Goldeneye on UK?s first dedicated IP-based ARC PDF Print E-mail

Axis Communications, the global leader in IP-Surveillance, has made Goldeneye UK Ltd its first partner for alarm receiving centre services in the UK. Goldeneye launched its IP-based Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) last month.

The new ARC represents an entirely new approach to remote monitoring, offering significant cost and operational benefits over its analogue predecessors.  The flexibility of IP-enabled systems means that it is now possible to use motion detection, now built into many network cameras, to provide real-time video within seconds of a security event starting. Dedicated monitoring staff at Goldeneye’s ARC can then verify the event and notify relevant parties (including the emergency services) to facilitate rapid reaction.  The live image can also be forwarded to mobile devices as well as PCs.

Dominic Bruning, managing director for Axis Communications UK, commented:

“The immediacy and flexibility that is provided by the technology that Goldeneye is using combines well with the experience of its ARC personnel to more accurately detect the type of event; initiate the appropriate response; and support teams travelling to or already at the scene.  It represents an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of Axis’ IP-based surveillance solutions.”

Paul Driver, managing director of Goldeneye UK, explained that the insurance industry still needed to take note of the shake-up that the arrival of IP-Surveillance technologies has created in the security monitoring sector:

“Insurers are still very focused on only approving monitored CCTV systems based on outdated standards designed for analogue technology. They need to recognise that we have moved into a new era in security.  Our IP-based monitoring systems now exceed current standards in all areas and the ability of IP-Surveillance systems to integrate with other network based security systems creates an entirely new set of requirements for remote monitoring.

“Recognition of lower total cost of ownership of IP-Surveillance solutions has also acted to create significant end-user demand.  Affordability, scalability and flexibility are key benefits of IP-based surveillance systems.  These benefits are already leading to more and better surveillance system deployments, equating to greater crime detection and loss prevention. That can only be good for the insurance industry.  They need to gain an understanding of these facts and the technologies involved in creating them, rather than dismissing them out of hand. IP should now be the preferred option for insurers.

“We will be working with Axis and others to highlight to the insurance community that IP-Surveillance-based monitoring services offers timely, safe, secure, and cost-effective security. The demand for our services helps illustrate that end users are already comfortable that IP-Surveillance is meeting and exceeding their 24-hour security needs.”

Sales of IP-based surveillance systems are set to rise significantly over the next few years. The network camera market is now growing by close to 40 per cent per year as leading vendors launch new cameras with new features and greater versatility, quarter in quarter out. It is anticipated that over 65 per cent of UK companies will be considering IP-based camera systems over the next year.  By 2007 sales of network cameras will exceed traditional analogue CCTV sales according to leading analyst JP Freeman Inc and the world wide market for IP-Surveillance products will rise to $1.2 billion by 2010.
