A skatepark in Falkirk, Scotland, is now a much safer place for 'boarders', bikers and rollerbladers of all ages, thanks to a partnership between ANIXTER, FES and Bosch Security Systems.
The park, which was opened last year and financed by a local charity called The 3B's Project, was designed to provide young people with a safe place to practice and develop their skateboarding, biking and rollerblading skills. However, a few individuals, intent on behaving in an antisocial way, were causing problems for the park by smashing empty glass bottles - creating obvious danger for people using the tracks - and setting fire to bins, benches and even trees.
Kate Hotchkiss, one of the volunteers at The 3B's Project, explains: "A lot of hard work had gone in to getting permission and funding to develop the site and we weren't going to see it all go to waste. We, therefore, turned to FES, as one of Scotland's largest independent services providers, because we knew they would be able to help us find a security solution that would deter the vandals and help us prosecute the small selfish criminal minority."
FES installed ANIXTER's CCTP (Closed Circuit Twisted Pair) security solution at the site. This comprised of state-of-the-art digital Bosch EnviroDome CCTV cameras - which can rotate 360º and cover the park's entire area - and ANIXTER's unique IP-based, fully scaleable security infrastructure.
Jim Vallance, Divisional Director, at FES, comments: "One of the principle advantages of selecting ANIXTER's CCTP solution for the project was that all the power and control functions for each Bosch EnviroDome camera could be managed over a single twisted cable pair. This dramatically reduced the fitting and maintenance costs associated with traditional security installations, as unnecessary electrical work and duplicated cabling systems were eliminated. It also meant that the entire solution could be connected seamlessly into the organisation's existing IT network - so that images could be viewed on any authorised PC screen, rather than at a specific desk.
In addition, as the CCTV images are all digitally stored, the park's managers are now guaranteed access to high-quality coverage - unlike more conventional security systems where analogue video tapes can deteriorate over time and produce grainy images that slow, or even halt, identification procedures and the initiation of criminal proceedings.
John Downie, Director of Operations for FES Security Division continues: "Thanks to our close working relationship with ANIXTER and, in turn, it's excellent partnership in the security market with Bosch Security Systems, we were able to provide the skatepark with a modern digital and network-enabled security installation at a very competitive rate."
Tom Kneis, Sales Director, at ANIXTER, concludes: "We're extremely pleased to be associated with the new installation and are sure that our CCTP solution, together with Bosch's advanced EnviroDome camera technology and FES's expertise, will help the park continue to provide a valuable service to the community. It's rewarding to be involved with projects such as these - which provide real benefit to people on a day-to-day basis - and to be in a position to work with our channel partners to support the work of charitable organisations."
