Monitored by some four million CCTV cameras, one for every 14 citizens, Britain is officially the most watched nation in the world. Since 1994, the Home Office has spent a staggering 78% of its crime prevention budget on cameras. Up to £300 million pounds a year is spent on the surveillance of streets, housing estates, shopping centres, car parks and other public places.
IFSEC 2006, the world's leading security exhibition, will provide an immense source of information in this key area. Taking place at Birmingham NEC from 8-11 May 2006, IFSEC offers a convenient way to investigate the latest technology and the surrounding issues for those responsible for security procurement.
Dedicated feature area, The CCTV Village, will host a range of global CCTV and access control manufacturers, distributors and suppliers demonstrating the latest technological advances, including industry leaders JVC, Sanyo, Siemens, Panasonic, Dedicated Micros and Pentax. Other CCTV manufacturers exhibiting include Bosch, GE Security, LG electronics, Honeywell, Pelco and Tyco.
"Security has become a top priority in towns and cities across the UK, particularly in light of the London bombings last year, and staying one step ahead of criminals is becoming increasingly difficult," explains James Blue, event director, IFSEC. "Last year, over 59% of the vistors to IFSEC were there to source CCTV and this year the event will feature even more products, services and educational content to help local authorities combat crime."
As well as numerous feature areas, IFSEC 2006 will also include a vast educational programme with a host of free seminar sessions covering the hot security topics from a variety of angles. Seminars of particular interest to civil servants include:
Will your CCTV system catch criminals? - Presented by Dedicated Micros
Key performance indicators for security system design - Presented by Norbain Current threats and responses - Presented by The Security institute
For visitors looking to source security solutions tailored to their needs, the Security Solutions area of the event will provide an ideal focal point from which to explore the latest products and services, whilst visitors interested in integrated applications will be able to research the best solutions within the Network Advantage area. Solutions on exhibit will include the latest command and control software, visualisation systems, DVR and NVR Technology, IP cameras, network-based access control and Intelligent Video Processing.
For the first time, the guarding sector has been specifically provided for, with a specially designed 'pavilion' that will house 24 of the major guarding providers in the UK.
