Sony chosen to supply Dollond & Aitchison Spectacle Selection System |

Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions Division has announced that it has been selected to supply the camera system to be used in high-street branches of UK optician Dollond & Aitchison. The cameras will form a key part of D&A’s Image Capture system, used in its exclusive Styleyes service to advise customers on the most suitable spectacles for them.
The Image Capture system will use the Sony EVI-D70P remote pan/tilt/zoom camera to capture an image of the customer’s face whilst wearing various spectacle frames. This allows the D&A consultant to show them various frame and lens options instantly via a flat-screen display, from a variety of angles – and all whilst they are still seated in the dispensing booth. As part of the Styleyes consultation this will assist customers in choosing spectacles appropriate for their image, lifestyle, face shape and colouring.
“The EVI-D70P is under mouse control, allowing us to give our customers a professional consultation,” said Suzanne Clarkson at D&A. “All the customer needs to do is sit back and relax in the dispensing booth. The D-70 also gives us an accurate and natural, yet flattering, captured image on screen. Finally, it gives us a very consistent image under artificial lights, which is obviously important given the in-store environment.”
The EVI-D70P-based system also gives the ability to zoom in on images – using the camera’s 18x optical zoom and 12x optical zoom – and compare the look of multiple frames on-screen. The camera itself uses a high-quality 1/4 type EXview HAD CCD to achieve industry-leading low light operation (minimum illumination of less than 1 lux). It features fast pan and tilt speeds, six-position preset allowing rapid recapture of crucial viewing angles, auto focus and auto ICR functions.
