Harrow Borough Police will be staging its first ever youth forum in the Council Chamber of Harrow Civic Offices on Wednesday 22 March from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.
Young people from schools across the borough have been invited to come along and discuss the crime issues that concern them with the Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Bob Carr. The afternoon will include speeches from two Harrow schoolchildren, discussion and open debate. The event has been staged in conjunction with the Harrow Police Community Consultative Group. PC Rhian Millington, Safer Schools Officer, who organised the event said: "It is all too easy for adults to stigmatise young people and blame them for crime and anti-social behaviour. In reality, young people are far more likely to be the victims of crimes themselves that offenders. "By holding this Forum our intention is to engage with young people and to give them the opportunity to tell us exactly what they think about policing in Harrow. "Our particular focus will be on robbery - a crime which increasingly impacts on young people with the popularity of mobile phones, Ipods and other high value, portable electronic equipment." Sonoo Malkani, Chair of the Harrow Police Community Consultative Group, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the police to listen to young people and take note of their concerns."
