OVER ?3 MILLION WORTH OF CARS SEIZED PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 April 2006
HERTFORDSHIRE police has led a multi-force operation which has seen the seizure of a number of cars with an excess value of over £3 million, over a period of several months.

Operation Movement, a joint operation with police forces from Essex and Kent, is an investigation into organised theft and exportation of high value motor vehicles from the UK to Africa.

Vehicles were stolen from Hertfordshire areas including Hemel Hempstead, Cheshunt and Welwyn Garden City.

Seven men have been arrested and charged with money laundering and conspiracy to steal. They have been remanded in custody following a hearing at Stevenage Magistrates Court on Saturday (April 15) and are due to appear at Luton Crown Court on April 25th.

The men are:

Shafiq Kahuhanda, 34, of Grantham Road, London E12

Wycliffe Ssali, 30, of Harrowden Gardens, Luton

Abdu Gatsinzi, 36, of Brynmaer House, Brynamaer Road, London SW11

Patrick Eseru, 41, of Farleigh Road, Stoke Newington

Maqsood Ahmed, 34, of Springfield Drive, Ilford

Gary Lambourne, 33, of Creswick Walk, London E3

Martin Parpontry, 28, of Trees Crescent, London E3

Det Chief Inspector Jon Chapman, from Hertfordshire’s Organised Crime Unit, said: “ This was a joint operation incorporating police forces from Kent and Essex and is an excellent example of how forces can work together to fight organised crime.

"Our aim is to ensure that not only are criminals prosecuted for the crimes they commit, but that their ill gotten gains are confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Our message is clear: crime does not pay."
