Stabbed accountant Leslie Cumming will today (March 21st) talk about the horrific ordeal he suffered when he was attacked in Edinburgh two months ago.
Mr Cumming, 62 years, suffered numerous stab and slash wounds in the incident which happened just after 5pm on Monday January 23rd. He was attacked in a lane which leads to a series of lock up garages behind his home in Murrayfield Drive after he had just put his car away. After the stabbing the suspect made off into Ormidale Terrace and the Roseburn area. He is described as being in his 20s, stocky build and wearing dark clothing and a dark balaclava. Police also revealed today that they now have a partial DNA profile of the suspect. Detective Inspector Keith Hardie, who is leading the enquiry, said: 'As a result of detailed forensic work we now have a partial DNA profile of the attacker but we still need more information about what happened on that January afternoon. 'We have detailed statements from Mr Cumming but we want to know where his attacker went after the incident. We believe he made off into Ormidale Terrace and then possibly in the Roseburn direction. 'Who is he? Does anyone remember seeing this man, who was wearing dark clothing and a dark balaclava, on that afternoon? Where did he go? 'Did he perhaps get into some sort of vehicle like a car or van? Perhaps he got into a taxi or even used public transport. 'Around ten buses made stops on the Corstorphine Road in the 15 minutes after the attack. Did our suspect get on one of those buses? Do you remember seeing anyone acting suspiciously? 'We still need the public's help in finding Mr Cumming's attacker. We hope that by issuing the photographs of his injuries someone, somewhere will make that call with a name. The DNA profile we have allows us to eliminate people easily. 'The injuries he suffered were quite horrific and we need to find his attacker.' In the two months since the stabbing police have taken 133 statements and over 420 people have been spoken to. There are still 18 police officers and staff working in the Incident Room at Gayfield Square Police Station. A £10,000 reward (£5,000 from Crimestoppers and £5,000 from the Law Society of Scotland) has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131-311-3131 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
