PCSO KAREN MORRIS from the Bushey Community Team has been successful in her bid to receive PCSO Initiative Funding for 10,000 ‘Swag Tags’.
The tags are reusable signs designed to hang from the rear view mirror of a vehicle very time it is left unattended. They serve as a reminder to the motorist not to leave anything of value in the vehicle, as well as making it clear to potential thieves that there are no valuables worth stealing.
The ‘Swag Tags’ will be distributed to vehicles in car parks in Hertsmere and will be used in conjunction with Operation Rat Trap, targeting car crime in the Central area.
Karen said: “The ‘Swag Tag’ initiative will help people to help themselves. Reducing incidents of car crime will improve the quality of life for not only Hertsmere residents but also those who work in the area or are just passing through.
“Our aim is to make these tags part of the process of securing their vehicle, so motorists will be educated into removing valuables every time they leave it.”
The success of the campaign will be monitored and if it proves effective in the reduction of car crime in the area it is hoped that further funding can be obtained to continue the project.
The ‘Swag Tags’ were produced with the help of Hertsmere Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership.
