Storage of notes at the till point has been made easier and safer for Virgin Megastore staff since the introduction of Compact Counter Cache units from Volumatic.
Over 1000 units are currently being rolled out to all 133 stores. They will be used to store notes securely at the point of sale and during transit prior to being counted and sorted. Additionally, 20 Counter Cache trolleys have been purchased for use in larger stores. Previously, the company used Airtube pod systems in its larger stores and had no external cash storage products in use in its smaller stores.
Phil Smith, Virgin's Risk and Loss Prevention Manager explained, "Volumatic's products were chosen because they were robust, secure, fitted well into till counter areas and provided the flexibility of using additional cassettes for ease of cash removal. The units have enabled Virgin to have a consistent solution for all stores, regardless of size, for the storage of notes at till point."
Designed to reduce the risk of theft and increase the efficiency of the reconciliation process, the units have anti-fish* drawers which open only wide enough to deposit items. The internal receptacles comprise either a reusable cassette or a disposable pouch. To ensure an unbroken audit trail, cassettes are available with security seals and pouches with a bar coding system.
