The MessageLabs Anti-Virus Service has today become the first managed service to be awarded the CSIA Claims Tested (CCT) Mark - a government quality mark initiative for information security products and services.
The award was announced by the Head of the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance (CSIA), Steve Marsh, speaking at the Infosecurity Europe event.
Marsh said - "Managed services are of particular interest to the public sector especially in terms of data sharing within and between organisations. We are extremely pleased that this service has achieved the award which will help give assurance to the public sector that the information security products and services they use make the grade for the government's quality mark".
Another milestone is that the first product to be awarded the Mark in September 2005, Connect Protect, has also been awarded the Mark for the latest version of the product.
The other CCT Award winners announced were: Whale Communications - e-Gap Remote Access Appliance product Pointsec - Pointsec for PC Enterprise Workplace Edition product
The purpose of the CCT Mark Scheme is to provide accredited independent testing on off-the-shelf products and services and thus give the wider public sector a basic level of assurance for the information security products and services they use.
Although primarily aimed at IT and information security managers across the wider public sector, it will also provide an in invaluable guide to small and medium-businesses wanting to know that their purchasing meets preferred standards.
The Scheme was officially launched in September 2005 by Jim Murphy, Cabinet Office Minister with responsibility for e-Government.
Speaking about today's awards Murphy said: "With the transformational government programme underway, there will be many changes as we work towards providing a better service for our customers. This means it is more important than ever for the public sector to have confidence in the information security products and services they acquire.
"The CCT Mark Scheme is crucial in gaining this confidence as it provides a choice of assured products and services to help us achieve more joined -up government and even more secure transactions between government and the general public.
"Therefore I would like to congratulate all the Award winners and encourage others to strive toward achieving this government quality mark."
Previous Award recipients of the CCT Mark include BeCrypt, SecureWave, AppSense and Reflex Magnetics.
